How it works

Remove. Service. Reinstall.

The VDS remains with the vessel while the AQ2-R pod is designed to be removable. The concept supports dockside handling and service access without treating the propulsion unit as a permanent part of the hull.

2. Removed for service. The pod can be handled separately from the vessel.

Operating economics

Move beyond diesel propulsion costs.

A fully electric propulsion conversion eliminates diesel fuel consumption and diesel-engine oil changes associated with the propulsion engine.

Actual operating savings will depend on the vessel, duty cycle, local fuel and electricity prices, charging strategy, maintenance requirements and final AQ2-R configuration. We present those economics as vessel-specific—not as a universal savings claim.

Smart systems

Know what the system is doing.

AQ2-R's monitoring concept combines battery supervision with vessel-facing system awareness so operators can see important conditions in real time and respond earlier when attention is needed.

BMS — Battery Management System

Monitors battery operating conditions such as cell and pack voltage, current, temperature and state of charge; supports balancing, charge/discharge limits and protective responses according to the final battery architecture.

SMS — Smart Monitoring System

Brings propulsion and sensor information together for onboard visibility, status, alerts, diagnostics and preventive-maintenance awareness. Final monitored and controlled functions will follow prototype integration and validation.

Our waterways are living habitats. Aqua Leaf's environmental direction is about reducing reliance on diesel propulsion, eliminating propulsion-engine oil changes after conversion, and developing marine technology with greater awareness of the environment in which vessels operate. AQ2-R-specific acoustic and ecological effects will require vessel-level testing.

Prototype development

From concept to physical validation.

The next stage is focused on physical prototype development, integration, testing and validation of the AQ2-R platform.

That work will help establish measured performance, refine the installation architecture and provide the data needed for future engineering, certification and commercialization decisions.

What is AQ2-R?

AQ2-R is being developed as a removable electric waterjet propulsion retrofit platform for suitable existing marine vessels.

Can AQ2-R retrofit an existing vessel?

The platform is being developed around adapting suitable existing vessels. Vessel compatibility, installation and final engineering requirements will require vessel-specific review.

What stays on the vessel when the pod is removed?

The Vessel Docking Structure (VDS) remains with the vessel while the AQ2-R propulsion pod is designed to be removed for service, maintenance or future upgrades.

Does AQ2-R use a propeller?

No. The AQ2-R concept uses electric propulsion to drive a waterjet system rather than an exposed propeller.

What do the BMS and Smart Monitoring System do?

The BMS supervises battery operating conditions and protective limits. The Smart Monitoring System is intended to bring propulsion and sensor information together for onboard status, alerts, diagnostics and preventive-maintenance awareness.

What stage is AQ2-R in now?
